Brens remnant planting update

The first day of planting went well although there were some late cancelations.

Some of those arriving at 10 stayed through to 2pm to assist which was most helpful.

It was lovely to see so many new faces.

We managed to plant 1,000plants

This leaves us almost 1,600 to go which will certainly keep us busy on Sunday May 16^th

Do come and help. It is good fun and not too arduous.

Nearly a year ago we were successful in the Communities Environment Program awarding us monies to revegetate the Brens Remnant area to provide habitat and food for birds and insects.  We have purchased over 2000 plants for this area!

We thank Adam Bandt and his team for helping us to secure this grant.

After an enforced delay due to COVID we are now ready to begin the plantings and we would love to see you there!

First planting:

What: Brens Remnant planting

Date: Saturday 17^th April 2021

Time: 10am and 12 noon (2 sessions)

Second planting:

What: Brens Remnant planting

Date: Sunday 16^th May 2021 (NOTE DATE CHANGE!!)

Time: 10am and 12 noon (2 sessions)

What to bring:

Due to COVID we will have limited ability to provide food and drink (some snacks and bottled water will be available).

There will be trowels and gloves available but if you can please bring your own.

Other: Sunhat, gloves, water and lunch.

Parking is available at the State Netball and Hockey Centre or come by Train to Flemington Bridge Station or Tram 58 Stops 24/25 Tram 59 Stop 22.

He works for the environment every day

At last an opportunity to work in the park again!

When: Wednesday Nov 18^th

Time: 10am to 12 noon

Where: Meet at the Walmsley House, 161 Gatehouse St, Parkville (Royal Parade end)

BYO gardening gloves, water bottle, hat, sunscreen.

We will either work in the nursery compound or remove old tree guards in the park 

We will have up to 10 people in a group to comply with restrictions.

Covid-19 precautions will apply, including 1.5m distancing, hand sanitising and definitely do not attend if you have any coronavirus symptoms, even mild, fever, headache, cough, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath or breathing difficulties, chills, body aches or  diarrhoea.

Working bees in Royal Park are held regularly.

When: first and third Wednesdays of each month

Time: 10am -12noon.

Where: Meeting place will be Walmsley House unless otherwise advised.

Closer to the date the task and location will be advised.

These are held in concert with Friends of Royal Park and Serco.

Recognition 

One of our committee members, Paul Prentice was acknowledged this week at an event at Government House.

Paul has been recognised for his efforts in litter removal services across the Merri Creek catchment being nominated by Councillor Jackson of Craigieburn Council.

Paul has previously received the Dame Phyllis Frost award as part of Keep Australia Beautiful.
